Gorgeously rendered in stylish pixel art, The Blade in the Bark places you in the shoes of a heroine bound to serve the God Tree in the fight against the Nightmare. Unlike most action adventure games, you can’t simply hack your way to victory – your mystical blade will only manifest in circles of moonlight, a rare sight in the shrouded, frozen North. As your quest progresses, magical runes will reveal more details about the rich fantasy world you’ve stumbled upon.

Inspired by Hyper Light Drifter and Titan Souls, The Blade in the Bark’s aesthetic is defined by its polished pixel art. You wouldn’t know from looking at it, but the artists on Team Isogon learned pixel art from scratch for the project, with art lead Miki Bishop helping to fill in the gaps and teach techniques to the team’s other artists.
