DigiPen has a number of pieces of assistive technology, including software and hardware, for qualifying students with DSS needs. Students should contact the DSS Office if they need any of these accommodations or if they need access to software or hardware not listed.
Software
ZoomText: Magnification software with some screen-reading functionality for students who have a vision impairment.
- Dragon Speech Recognition Software: Industry-standard speech-to-text software for students who are deaf or have a hearing impairment.
Natural Reader: Text-to-speech software for students who are blind or have a vision impairment.
Other Software
Students may download the following software onto their own computers, or contact the DSS Office to download this software onto a school computer.
AMIS (Adaptive Multimedia Information System): Free self-voicing software designed for visually impaired people to read books in the DAISY format.
CAR (Central Access Reader): Free, open-source, text-to-speech application designed specifically for students with visual or reading-related disabilities.
Dolphin Reader: Screen reader software available for download with purchase.
Dyslexie: A free font download useful for students with dyslexia.
Beeline Reader: Program and plug-in that uses color gradients to make reading text easier and faster.

Students may contact the DSS Office to borrow the following hardware. Some of these utilities are also available for checkout from the DigiPen Library.

Williams Sound FM Audio Kits: FM audio kits consist of a transmitter bodypack, receiver body pack, headset, and headphones or an induction loop. These kits transmit audio via an FM radio frequency and are used to assist students with hearing disabilities in classroom or lecture settings.

Mini Audio Recorder: USB-compatible field recorder to audio-record lectures or team meetings. (Sony IC Recorder; model ICD-PX312)
Noise-Cancelling Headphones: Large noise-cancelling headphones. Available for checkout in the library.
Toshiba Laptops: Two laptops with Windows 10. Students can request IT to download other software programs available to students on campus computers, if needed.
Wacom Tablet: Wireless Bamboo Pad touchpad with digital stylus pen.
Logitech Roller Mouse: Trackball-style computer mouse.
